Coverup Tattoo
turning regret into beauty

Sometimes a tattoo no longer represents who you are. Whether it’s faded, poorly executed, or simply reminds you of a chapter you’ve outgrown — a professional coverup can transform it into something you truly love. At ArtCraft Tattoo Studio we specialize in turning old tattoos into powerful, meaningful new artwork.

Coverup Tattoo

What is a coverup tattoo?

A coverup tattoo is the art of transforming an unwanted or outdated tattoo into a new, meaningful design. Instead of removing or lasering the old piece, we carefully work over it with fresh ink, creating something completely new while respecting the existing lines and skin.

At ArtCraft Tattoo Studio we have years of experience with coverups — from small regrets and faded names to large, poorly executed tattoos that no longer reflect who you are. With the right planning and technique, even challenging old work can become a beautiful, cohesive piece you’re proud to wear.

What we can cover
Old names, dates and ex-related tattoos
Faded, blurry or poorly executed tattoos
Small regrets and awkward placements
Large outdated or unfinished pieces
Tattoos that no longer represent you
Why it’s worth it

Why choose a professional coverup?

Instead of living with regret or spending thousands on laser removal, a well-executed coverup can turn a mistake into your favorite tattoo. It’s often faster, more affordable, and far more creative.

Transforms regret into something meaningful and beautiful

Usually more cost-effective than full removal

Creates a stronger, more cohesive final piece

Done by artists experienced with challenging coverups

Common Coverups

What kind of coverups do we do most often?

Here are some of the coverup projects we successfully complete on a regular basis.

Old names and dates

Transforming personal names, ex-partners or outdated dates into meaningful new artwork.

Faded or blurry tattoos

Reviving and completely redesigning old, washed-out pieces into fresh, bold designs.

Large outdated tattoos

Covering big, poorly executed or unfinished work with cohesive, modern compositions.

Our Process

How we create a successful coverup

A good coverup requires careful planning. We never simply “draw over” the old tattoo — we design something new that works with the existing ink and skin.

01

Consultation & Assessment

We examine the old tattoo, discuss what you want to change, and evaluate what’s realistically possible.

02

Custom Coverup Design

We create a new design that cleverly incorporates or completely transforms the old tattoo.

03

The Coverup Session(s)

Done with precision and the right techniques. Larger coverups are often completed over multiple sessions.

04

Healing & Follow-up

Detailed aftercare instructions and a free check-up to ensure the best possible final result.

What makes a great coverup?

The secret to a successful coverup is smart design. We use dark shading, clever placement, and strategic negative space to hide the old tattoo while creating something entirely new. Experience matters — not every artist is skilled at coverups.

Careful analysis of the existing tattoo
Strategic use of black and shading
Creative incorporation of old lines
Long-term aesthetic harmony
Real Results

Coverups we’ve successfully completed

Here are some examples of the coverup work we’re proud of.

Old name coverup

Transformed a personal name into a powerful symbolic piece using blackwork and negative space.

Faded tribal coverup

Completely redesigned and modernized an old, blurry tribal tattoo into a clean geometric sleeve.

Large outdated back piece

Turned an old, poorly executed tattoo into a dramatic, cohesive blackwork composition.

Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Most tattoos can be covered, but success depends on size, color, location, and how dark the existing ink is. We always give an honest assessment during the consultation.
It can feel more intense on already tattooed skin, but we use numbing cream and work in shorter sessions to keep it comfortable.
Small coverups can be done in 1–2 sessions. Larger or more complex ones may require 3–6 sessions or more.
In most cases, the old tattoo becomes completely hidden or only faintly visible under the new design. The better the planning, the cleaner the result.
Send us an email or call. Please include clear, well-lit photos of the tattoo you want to cover. We’ll reply with honest feedback and available dates.

If you have a tattoo you no longer love, don’t settle for regret or expensive removal. A skilled coverup can turn it into something beautiful and meaningful. At ArtCraft Tattoo Studio we specialize in giving old tattoos a powerful second life.
